Veerappan was born into a poor farming family. He dropped out of school in the 7th standard and started working as a laborer. By the 1990s, Veerappan had become the most wanted man in India. The police had a ₹50 lakh bounty on his head, and he was considered a terrorist by the Indian government. He was known to carry a pair of scissors and a country-made pistol, which he used to threaten and intimidate his victims.

Veerappan's life and crimes have been the subject of several films, books, and documentaries. He remains one of the most infamous bandits in Indian history, and his name is synonymous with crime and terror.
